Scattered storms this evening, another slight chance Thursday

Today we warmed to 100 degrees for the first time this year as it was another hot day across the region. We might get some temporary relief from the heat this evening as we have a decent chance for storms. As of this writing scattered showers and thunderstorms have built up across eastern New Mexico and are moving to the east/northeast. This is the main complex of storms we will be dealing with this evening. That being said, some other storms have popped up farther east, mainly across the northern Rolling Plains. These storms are also moving east/northeast. A few storms could become strong, with the main concern being strong wind gusts, but some large hail, heavy rain and frequent lightning is also possible. While a few strong storms are possible, we do not expect wide spread severe weather this evening. You can keep an eye on the storms with the live stream of our Vipir radar by clicking here or by looking at the still image of the radar below.

The storms will end overnight with another hot day in store for us tomorrow. We again will have a slight chance for a few isolated showers and thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and evening, but coverage will be much more limited compared to today. Again a few of the storms tomorrow could become strong, but there is no major concern for severe weather.

By Friday the high pressure system will be strong enough overhead that we will hardly see a cloud in the sky. This will be the case on Saturday as well and this is when we expect the warmest temperatures of the week with almost all of us warming into the triple digits. The high pressure system will shift more west of us next week which means our temperatures will not be quite as hot, but with sunshine continuing, we will still have afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 90s.

I hope you were able to stay cool today! I will step you through the forecast tonight on the News at Nine and Matt will have a complete updated forecast for you tomorrow morning.  -Rudy
