LUBBOCK, Texas -
A man who police say caused a multi-vehicle wreck resulting in the death of a Lubbock woman has been charged with multiple felonies, including murder.
LPD reports Jonathan Lovato, 33, led officers on a high-speed chase March 17 down 19th Street before colliding with four vehicles in the intersection of 19th and Avenue Q. Nancy Tran, 54, a mother of three and long-time Covenant Hospital employee, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lovato, who was indicted in April for possession of a controlled substance after police reportedly found more than a hundred grams of meth in the car he was driving, is charged with five counts of aggravated assault, evading in a vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm, and murder. Each of those charges are enhanced, meaning Lovato could face harsher punishment. His bond amounts total more than $1 million.
According to LPD, undercover officers were attempting to serve a narcotics warrant when the suspect and a passenger tried to evade arrest at 19th and Memphis Avenue.
Five others were injured in the crash, including Lovato.
