LUBBOCK, Texas -
The president of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays is asking the City Council to form a committee to review and research any provisions to the city's current ordinances and policies regarding the LGBT community.
Tony Thornton says the city's non-discrimination policies need to be more inclusive to the LGBT community, so they can feel safe and protected in the workplace.
"Several groups of citizens in Lubbock have been having conversations about this issue, and have come together to address concerns that the LGBT community may not be protected in currently adopted employment policies and city ordinances specifically the inclusive language in your non-discrimination definitions," Thornton said. "It is essential to our community that all individuals be protected, and be stated in your policies."
PFLAG's mission is to promote the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through support, education and advocacy to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights, according to its website.
